About the Department
Garhbeta College introduced B.P.Ed. course in the years 2006 to provide quality education in the field of physical education. It is recognized by NCTE and has a fully develop play grounds and other infrastructures. The department has a dedicated team of competent teachers and instructors to provide the training and teaching assignment. The students of the department participate in several inter college inter university and all India level sports competition. The department organizes training camps for players of the College for participation in Inter University tournaments. The department regularly organizes Inter faculty vs students sports meet, Intramural programs etc. The department also arranges health and fitness welfare activities for the teaching and non- teaching staffs of the College.
The Department is committed to excellence in teaching, research and community service in the fields of Physical Education and Sports by providing Quality Education and Congenial Environment to students and staffs. The chief aim of the department is to prepare ideal Physical Education teacher trained in every aspects of life so that they are competent and versatile in dealing with future demands of the society.
History of the Department
The B.P.Ed. course at Garbeta College is currently best known for its two-year teacher training Program in physical education. This course (B.P.Ed.) has been functioning since 2006 which is currently the only physical education teachers training college in Paschim Medinipur district. The course is NCTE approved and affiliated to Vidyasagar University. This residential course is located entirely within the college campus. The College Management Committee has taken several steps to make the course run smoothly and for the benefit of the students such as separate classrooms, Multigym, Human Performance Lab, Psychology Lab, Physiotherapy Unit, Multi Purpose Gymnasium Hall, Basketball Court, Football Ground, 400 meter track (under construction), there are separate playgrounds, computer labs, central library, wi-fi campus hostel facilities, etc.
